Eastern Madagascar

In eastern Madagascar visitors will find both sedate tropical islands as well as impenetrably and lush jungle. A 3 hour drive away from the capital city of Madagascar there is a tropical national park hidden by graphite deposit.  Andasibe-Mantadia National Park with a size of 15.000 ha is one of the most famous national parks due to its central location in the high lands. Indri Indri - the biggest family member of the lemurs attracts all visitors.

The Pangalanes Canal on the east coast, with 665 km, is the longest canal in the world and takes a chain of lakes and lagoons until Tamatave. Many traditional fisher villages with pirogue, overloaded ferries and floats laden with wood coin the picture. Experience the north east near Maroansetra the lush beauty of Masoala peninsula: This is where thick rainforest and green mountains meet pristine sandy beaches. Reaching this place by car is simply impossible! The small island Nosy Manga Be is situated in the bay of Masoala peninsula and reminds on the movie Jurassic Park. It is characterised by the large population of Aye-Aye.

In the north east of Madagascar there is the island Sainte Marie which is 60 km long but only 5 km wide. The verdant island with its fantastic white beaches is covered with palms and quaint small villages that mirror exactly what people imagine to be a tropical island.  In the past it used to be the basis for various activities done by pirates. Between June and September you can be part of a spectacular highlight: hunshback whales giving birth to their young.
